Back from Europe

We just returned to the US from a 7 week trip to Spain and Portugal. It was a very good trip. We flew into Porto, Portugal where we spent two weeks, after which we took a train down and spent a week in Sintra, Portugal. Lastly, we flew from Lisbon to Bilbao, Spain where we […]

Back From the Bahamas for the Summer

We spent most of April and May cruising around the familiar Abaco cruising spots, Guana Cay, Man-Of-War Cay, Little Harbour, and Treasure Cay. Even though our major boat leak repair is fixed, we still had some problems with some of our electronics when Satisfaction was returned to us in February. I am not sure why […]

Homeless No More!

When my wife and I sold our home in Annapolis, MD in the spring of 2012 and decided to live on our sailboat, many of our close friends and family hinted we would regret selling our beautiful Annapolis home. And everyone else we knew just thought we were crazy to live on a boat; and […]

Island Life; Land versus Water

We have been in our cottage here in the Abacos for about 6 weeks and I thought I would write a short post on the difference of living on land versus living on the water on a boat. Some of the differences are obvious, but I thought I would point out the advantages and disadvantages […]

Island Life….The Way It Used to Be

We have finally arrived back in the Bahamas. This time we are boat less. We did not get around to purchasing another boat and we wanted to be in the Bahamas for the winter months. Our plan is to start looking for another boat next summer. Until then we are land bound. We will be […]

Quick 2014 Summer Update

I just wanted to post a quick update on our situation. We dropped off “Odyssey,” our Beneteau 361, at the Fernandina Beach City Marina the third week of June. Our Annapolis Yacht broker, Tim Wilbricht of Annapolis Yacht Sales, and crew picked up Odyssey and sailed offshore around Cape Hatteras and then up the Chesapeake […]

Final Cruise of 2014 in the Abacos

Our last three weeks in the Abacos was spent in Green Turtle Cay and visiting the remote areas north of Green Turtle Cay. The area north of Green Turtle Cay has many beautiful uninhabited islands that are just teeming with sea creatures that are harder to come by in the more populated areas of the […]

Spring Time in the Abacos

The month of April started out with more friends visiting us, but finished with Dena and me experiencing some real cruising adventures. Our first cruise in April found us running aground twice in 3 days. This was the first time we had run aground in the Bahamas.

Perfect Weather in the Abacos

Since my last post we have experienced the longest stretch of good weather we have ever experienced in the winter months. The month of February has been almost all sunshine and warm weather. Unfortunately, I spent the first 10 days in Maryland taking care of some personal business where the temperature was 13 degrees Fahrenheit […]

Bad Weather in the Abacos

Since the New Year began we have been trapped in Hopetown Harbour on Elbow Cay due to bad weather. We had planned to go on an extended cruise to some remote islands around the Abacos. Bad weather has caused us to delay this plan.
