Back from Italy

We have returned from a 7 week trip to Italy. Actually the trip was 5 weeks in Italy and 2 weeks on a trans-Atlantic cruise ship. I have to admit I was skeptical that I would enjoy that much time in Italy. But after you figure out how the trains, grocery stores, and other local customs work, it was really enjoyable.

We spent 2 weeks in Venice, 1 week in Siena, 1 week in Cinque Terra, 1 week in Orvieto, and 3 days in Rome. Venice was the most unique and interesting place we visited. We stayed in the town of Monterosso in Cinque Terra which is on the Italian Riviera. Monterosso was the most relaxing with the most incredible water views.

From Rome we took a Celebrity cruise ship back to Florida. The cruise ship made stops in Madeira off Morocco, and 3 stops in the Caribbean before arriving in Miami. We had never been on a large cruise ship before so I was skeptical about this part of the trip as well. But the ship was like a floating Las Vegas hotel with restaurants, gambling, entertainment, and all sorts of activities to keep everyone busy.

Rather than ramble on about our trip, I will just post some pictures. In my opinion the pictures do not do justice to the locations. Remember to click on the pictures to enlarge.

In fact, our Italy trip was so much fun that we have decided to put off purchasing our new sailboat. We are now planning to return to Italy in April 2015 for another 2 month trip. On this trip we will focus on southern Italy; mostly in Sicily and the Amalfi Coast below Naples.

Because of this change in plans, we decided to rent a cottage from December through March 2015 on Elbow Cay just outside Hope Town. After spending about 2 weeks in freezing cold weather in MD getting a lot of personal things done, we have just arrived back in the Abacos.
